QQ Kopitiam

I’ve been curious for a long time ago every time I passed by on this place. It’s always crowded by visitors. I thought at first this place is served western food, but it turns out a kopitiam derived from Medan.

The kopitiam design is marvelous. Dominated with brown color, antique wood chair with rattan seat, spherical dim lights that hung above, black & white portrait on the wall and also they bravely put the street lamp on inside. And the pattern of the floor is awesome. It’s like a Moroccan style tile. The old elevator door complete with fence and huge size of clock that you usually saw on the train station, gives the impression of a historical old town. Cool!

I like their idea that put a car number plate on table as their table number. Clever & unique! Well, to refresh my dry throat, I order Kedondong Juice. Price 25 K. A fresh sour Kedondong juice came in a jar. Nice!

I also choose their Set Menu A. Price 38 K. It consists of Kaya Toast, a cup of Coffee Milk and Soft-boiled Egg. The toast is crisp outside and the Kaya jam is not too sweet. Quite good. The coffee milk taste like the other kopitiam version.

For main meal they served Mie Sop Bakso Ayam Special (chicken meatball soup noodle), Mie Garing Kangkung Terasi (Balachan Noodle with Watercress), Horfun Daging Kepiting (Crab Meat Horfun), Kwetiau Cumi Saus Pedas (Spicy Sauce Squid Kwetiau), Nasi Goreng Seafood (Seafood Fried Rice), Bihun Singapore (Singapore Vermicelli), Tom Yam Seafood, etc. For snacks you can choose Pisang Goreng with Kaya (Fried Banana with Kaya Jam), Mantao Goreng (Fried Mantao), Bakso Udang (Shrimp Ball), Chicken Wings, etc.

Singapore OldTown Kopitiam

This is one of the most fave kopitiam to chill out in the night for me & my friends after doing the church activity at West Jakarta area. Located in the middle of a densely populated residential, I think they choose the strategic area to open their business.

With simple & cozy design, they quite successful to deliver their message to create a comfy place for togetherness. One thing that quite unique is they hanging the black birdcage as their lamp. I will upload the picture on my next visit.

Must order in Kopitiam is toast! I wanna try their MiloToast. Thick toast came with Milo Milk Powder on the top. Quite nice. I like it!

For appetizer I order Buncis Crispy (Crispy String Beans). They coated the string bean with flour then fried until the texture become crispy. Tasty! Eat it while still hot with chili sauce.

Next appetizer is Balachan Chicken Wings. I thought at first they marinated it with shrimp paste/balachan then fried. Apparently I have a wrong guess, they directly fried it with flour, then they give us a Balachan sambal. Wew, quite disappointed. It’s taste so so. Nothing special about it!

For main dish I choose Singapore Laksa. The coconut milk soup is very tasty. With white noodle, boiled egg, bean sprout, fish cake, shrimp plus fried red onion and scallion on top, this dish is so delicious.

For dessert I order Pikachu. That’s the abbreviation of Pisang, Coklat, Keju (in English: Banana, Chocolate, Cheese). They grilled the fresh banana, then sprinkle it with grated of cheese & chocolate meisjes. The last thing to do, give the sweetened condensed milk on top. Tada! So simple but quite good!

Price range for food 10 k to 35 K. For beverage 5 K to 25 K.

Ah Mei Cafe

With many varieties of food and a free wifi facility (it’s a must have for a café), this is the right place for me to enjoy my life with my friends & family. Ah Mei Café is from Singapore. Best known as restaurant that serve Halal menu items and Singapore Hawkers Food which is multi-ethnic and suitable for the general public. They claimed that they serve the legendary & original Singapore taste with the best ingredients mother nature.

Kaya Toast is the most famous kind of toast in Singapore. Today, I wanna order that with a glass of Hot Milo. With half crispy texture outside (not as crispy as Yakun Kaya Toast) and the soft sweetness of kaya jam inside is become the good combination. I think the perfect time to enjoy this meal is in the morning or in the afternoon :)

The next snack I choose Curry Puff. The curry taste is not too strong, blended well with the tender chicken & potato inside. Fresh from the oven! Enjoy it while still hot.

For main dish, I order Murtabak Mutton. Price 38 K. Quite a large portion. Taste quite nice. The mutton meat is tender, sautéed w/ onion & scallion. It came with a bowl of mutton curry. Over all are tasty!

For dessert I wanna try their Rojak Special. Price 26 K. Assorted fresh fruits with boiled bean sprout and of course Cakwe! We can ask for the spiciness level of peanut sauce. Quite delicious! Better if they fried the Cakwe until it become crispy. It will be more yummy!

Then for closing: Ice Kachang. Price 22.5 K. Yeah, I really like the colorful dessert. Grass jelly, sweet corn, red bean & peanut with sarsaparilla syrup. So refreshing. If you are a dessert lover, this is the must order item on the list!

With price range between 15 k to 40 K and of course because of their good quality of food, I will come often in the next chances.

Golden Century

What I love about this kopitiam is their hidden location. Located in the corner, near the back entrance of Metro Department Store of Gandaria City, causing there’s not so many people know that they are existed ;) The last time I came in this place, I spent almost 4 hours to read my Joel Osteen’s new released book, I Declare (intermezzo: this is a very inspiring and motivating book. You have to buy it! It’s better in English version. It’s really blessed my soul!). I really enjoy the serenity of this place.

I order Hot Coffee Milk Tea. Quite nice.

For snack, I choose Banana Fried. Taste so standard, a little bit disappointed. They only fried the banana with flour and present it with a spoon of chocolate meisjes and shredded of cheese. I’d better have my banana fried in the street, they present it a far away better than this one. Just saying!

Price range between 10 K to 25 K for beverage & snack. For main course price around 35 K. Although their food is taste so so….I will come again because I look for their ambience ;)

Oldtown White Coffee

Kopitiam will always be my favorite place to spend my weekend. Oldtown White Coffee’s philosophy is represented my feeling, “Take your time. Savour every moment”. From Malaysia, they successfully spread their franchise to Singapore, China and Indonesia. They formulated their own blend of 3 in 1 instant white coffee and commenced manufacturing in 1999. In 2004, they further penetrated the export markets for their instant coffee to cover the United States,Canada and United Kingdom  and subsequently in 2005, Taiwan and Indonesia.

This evening, I want to try their Hot White Coffee – Cham. Price 17 K. The fragrant of their coffee is equivalent with the taste. The blend between coffee and chocolate is perfect.

Kaya & Butter Thick Toast is sound perfect to accompany my coffee. Price 19 K. Sweet and savory. I like it. They topped the toast with sweetened condensed milk.

For main course, I choose their chef recommendation:  Fried Kuey Teow with Egg Gravy. Price 36 K. The kuey teow is well cooked, but I don’t like the gravy. The flavor of dried shrimp is too strong, dominated all ingredients. I prefer the taste of dried shrimp is lighter, only as an accent.

I think their food are taste mediocrity. I more enjoy their coffee and toast :)

I remember I came to this new place at the Sunday afternoon after the Sunday service at my church. Based on my friend’s information who live in that Taman Ratu area (West Jakarta), I decided to try that brand new kopitiam. Actually I came with my friends, that means we can order many various food and I can try it all. The place is so small, but they have two levels. I prefer to sit on the second floor, because it’s wider.

As usually, I almost always order Black Coffee if I dine in Kopitiam. I like the cup appearance, looks so antique. Very traditional chinese motive & color.

That afternoon I really eager to eat pao. Maybe I get bored with siomay, hakau, etc. I wanna something solid & glut, haha….So I order Egg Custard Steam Pao. The pao is quite good, the salted egg yolk blended well with the sweetness of the custard.

Then, here comes another pao, the cute one! Hedgehog Custard Steam Pao, I observe it in a long time before I heart to eat it. Too cute….It has the same contain with the egg custard one.

Next dim sum is Chicken Feet. The taste is so so….not too good….hmmm…..

Lumpia Udang Goreng (Fried Shrimp Roll) is my choice for fried snack. The taste is mediocrity. The ingredients are shrimp, carrot shredded, and wrap with thin crispy flour dough & seaweed.

For sweet snack, I order Pisang Coklat Keju (Banana with Chocolate & Cheese). The banana is really good. They steam the banana first & smeared with butter,then they baked it. So tender & sweet. I’ve ever ate this kind of banana in Cibadak, Bandung.

For main course I try their Bubur Ikan Kerapu (Grouper Fish Porridge). The porridge is not too dilute and not too solid. With Grouper Fish & sprinkles chips dumplings, the taste is quite good.

For last order, I choose Bakmie Jamur (Mushroom Noodle). The topping, which are consist of chicken shredded & mushroom, tasted okay. But the noodle has underdone. Lacking long marinated in hot water/chicken broth. So the noodle texture is still feel too hard. Not good! Better they fix it in the future.

I often do the second dinner or supper in my weekend. Accidentally, I get around at Living World Mall – Gading Serpong. There’s so many option for supper in there. Love it! Finally, I come to KOPITIAM to have my first tasting. So excited! The place is comfy and really cozy for chit chat. The interior is dominated with wood material & red couch.

In Kopitiam, definitely you have to order their coffee, that’s why we came here, right? For first coffee, I order Ice Caramel Latte. Quite nice appearance. They let the milk, espresso & caramel syrup separated, so we can stir it up by our self.

The second order coffee is : Affogatto (Espresso with Vanilla Ice Cream). The bitter of espresso is balancing with the sweet of vanilla ice cream. Awakening me from my sleepy eyes immediately, haha…..

For appetizer I choose Fried Popiah. The integration between vermicelli, slices of carrot, scallion & peanut is blended so perfect. Thai Chili is accompany that. Nice!

Prawn Fried Bee Hoon is my option tonight for heavy meal. The seasoning is sticky, not too sweet, not too salty. Just perfect! It;s very delicious!

Over all, I feel very satisfied after dine in here! I will come back soon!

Eastern Kopitiam

Pesanggrahan Road is one of the hawker centre in West Jakarta. There’s so many different kind of food that offered in that area. I think is the right decision for Eastern Kopitiam to open the branch in this place, because not many kopitiam available in here. I came here at the New Year’s Eve. After I attend the family gathering, I don’t fell like wanna going home so soon, so I prefer to spend my night by chilling at the coffee shop. My choice fall in this place.

Hot Coffee & Tea (Mixed) for my opening. Price 9,9 K. Suitable for relaxing moment.

In a kopitiam you must taste their Kaya Toast. Price 14,9 K. I never see Kaya Toast presented like this. The taste is quite good. I don’t use all butter because it will make me feel nauseous.

For dessert I choose Cincau Organik (Organic Green Grass Jelly). Price 10,9 K. I like they come with the liquid sugar not with cocopandan syrup. I think with the light sweet of sugar will still accentuate the original taste of grass jelly.
