Bu Ning, who has the full name Sawijiningsih, is the legend of Lotek & Gado-Gado world at Yogyakarta. She’s started her business since 1983 and until now this place still become the favorite place to many people. Located only a couple meters from Lapas Wirogunan, Taman Siswa. You can reach this place only for 10 minutes from Malioboro or Kraton Yogya.
If you never knew about Lotek, well, you can call it “Indonesian Salad”. It made from boiled spinach, watercress, cabbage, bean sprout, string bean and mixed with blended peanut, cayenne chili, java/brown sugar, tamarind & kaempferia galanga. The seasoning is almost similar with Gado-Gado or Pecel. If you pay attention, when you come to this place you will find 3 huge mortars made from stone. They can mix the sauce & veggies in that mortar for 5-10 portions. The diameter is about 80 cm.
Of course I wanna try their famous Lotek. I think Bu Ning’s version is too sweet for me. The veggies is perfectly boiled, but the blended peanut sauce is too much watery. Not my favorite one.
The veggies fritter & fried tempe in here is so good. Served while still hot, it tasted so crispy and savory. Yummy! I ate 3 pieces, wow….wanna eat some more, but I remember that I’m still on diet, haha….
I also order Nasi Liwet. That’s rice that steamed with coconut milk and topped with spicy chayote, boiled egg and shredded chicken. Quite tasty, but it’s not the best version of Nasi Liwet.
For 4 portion of main dishes and 6 pieces of fried snack, I only pay for 46 K. Very cheap! They also serve Soto Ayam, Nasi Goreng Jawa (Java Fried Rice), Ayam Goreng Kremes (Crispy Fried Chicken), Es Campur (Mix Fruit Ice with Grass Jelly & milk syrup), Es Teler (ice avocado-coconut meat-jackfruit), etc.
