Remboelan restaurant (in English means: Moon) is reminds me of my childhood. Traditional recipe is really highlighted in their list menu. The location is on the top floor of Plaza Senayan Mall. The circular shape of the location, the dark brown wooden panels filled with diamond-shaped holes that surround it & up on the ceiling, green tropical forests lend a nice and relaxing ambience & modern at the same time to the place. When I’m dine in this place, I feel like I’m sitting inside one of Borobudur’s shrines (stupa). Am I right?
One of my favorite thing in this restaurant is the waiter peddle the traditional cake from table to table. Fresh from the oven! I always pick this 2 kind of cake : Lupis (Sticky Rice with Liquid Brown Sugar Topped w/ Dessicated Coconut) & Gemblong (Sticky Rice caramelized with Sugar). They cooked the sticky rice so well & wonderfully blended with the sweetness taste of sugar. Price 7,5 K.
Recently, they add Combro (Price 15 K) as their welcome snack. It made from cassava & grated coconut with spicy oncom inside. Quite good!
Lodeh (Stringbean,Tempe made from Soybean,Green & Red Chili with Coconut Milk) is the one of the most traditional veggies soup that easy to find at any place, from street stall to indonesian restaurant. But I can tell you, this is the best Lodeh I’ve ever ate. The taste of coconut milk is scrumptious! All ingredients are fresh! It proves that they cooked it at that time.Price 20 K.
For vegetable you can also choose Tumis Bunga Pepaya Kecombrang & Ikan Asap (stir fry papaya flower with kecombrang flower, shredded smoke fish & stinky bean). Price 35 K. The papaya flower is not too bitter and the seasoning is well balanced with the rich taste of smoke fish. Very delicious!
Next main course is Asem Asem Iga (Spicy Sour Beef Ribs). Price 55 K. The beef ribs is so tender. The sour of tomato & starfruit (belimbing wuluh) is perfectly mix with the spiciness of the cayenne pepper. Very savory! Maybe we can call it the indonesian version of Tom Yam soup?
I tried Mangut Ikan Pe Panggang (smoked stingray, fried fermented tofu, basil served with spicy coconut sauce). Price 45 K. This culinary is two thumbs up! Spicy and savory at the same time.
And the last but not least the incredible Gurame Rica (Chili Grilled Carp). Price 68 K. For spicy lover, I recommend you to order this one. The rica recipe is excellent. The chili is generously spread on top of the carp fish. But pity, I think the carp has been grilled quite too dry, so if we don’t eat at that moment, the carp skin is become hard.
Their Buntut Balado (beef oxtail with traditional chili Padang style) is also so scrumptious. Price 65 K. The chili recipe in this food is exactly the same as we order their Gurame Rica and Dendeng Balado. Not too spicy, very recommended!
For dessert, I like to order Es Kolak Bandung. The ingredients inside such as black glutinous rice, slurry marrow, etc flushing with Liquid Java Sugar & Coconut Milk. Javanese style & so refreshing!
This time I order Es Remboelan (avocado, fermented cassava, grass jelly & jackfruit with cocopandan syrup). Price 27 K. This is usually called Es Campur. The taste is not special, I can find it at other place.
At Remboelan, we can happily enjoy the extraordinary & affordable authentic Indonesian food in a pleasant atmosphere and hopefully, we can rekindle some good memories.
